Demi Pair (Part-time Au Pair)

Demi Pair (Part-time Au Pair)

Learn English and get to know what it's like to be part of a Canadian family!

As a Demi Pair (part-time Au Pair), you will make friends from around the world while you are studying and improving your English.

Demi Pair Concept

Study in the mornings at a top rated English language school located in downtown Toronto, Canada.  Help your new "family" with their children In the afternoons/evenings. Your Canadian family will introduce you to Canadian culture and integrate you into family life. You will get to know Toronto - a fun, exciting and safe city. Participating in the Demi Pair program gives you the perfect balance between learning English, meeting new friends, and discovering Canadian culture to the fullest! Demi Pairs offer up to 20 hours per week (5 days per week) of childcare assistance and light housekeeping duties. In exchange, the family provides the Demi Pair with inclusion in their family, a private room, and all meals.  Demi Pairs receive two days off each week.  One day must always be on the weekend.  This gives you plenty of time to still socialize with your friends, and participate in some school trips and activities. The Demi Pair program includes classes in our Full-Time English program (general English 20 lessons/week).  Participants may choose to upgrade to the TOEFL PLUS program (20 lessons/week) if they wish (additional charges apply).

As an Au Pair, you will be placed with a Canadian family for a period of between 24 & 52 weeks. When you complete the application form, you need to let us know how many weeks you wish to stay.

Prior to being accepted into the program, all host families have been carefully screened to ensure the comfort and safety of all Demi Pairs.  Every adult in the home must undergo a comprehensive criminal record check prior to hosting a Demi Pair.  All Demi Pairs evaluate their host family at the end of the program, and we only continue to work with families that have positive reviews from our participants.

Careful Monitoring

As a Demi Pair, you will be closely monitored throughout your stay by our Au Pair Program Coordinator. If you have any problems or issues, our Coordinator will be there to help you. The Coordinator is also there to provide support to the family, so if any issues arise, our Coordinator will quickly assist and try to solve them.

Over 95% of our Demi Pairs and host families have a positive experience with our program.  Sometimes, though, it just doesn't work out. If you have tried your best, followed the rules of the program (including undergoing a mutual meeting with our Coordinator and Host Family), and are still having problems with your host family, we will relocate you to another family free of charge.  This is a one-time benefit that we offer to all Demi Pairs.

Social Time

Since as a Demi Pair you will attend English classes, you will be able to meet other English language students from around the world. You will get to know your teachers and have the opportunity to participate in the school’s weekly trips and activities. This social time ensures that Demi Pairs develop friendships and a social life outside of their host family.

Both males and females may participate in the program.

All Demi Pairs must:

  • be 18 years of age or above
  • have past child care experience such as babysitting and/or tutoring
  • possess a mature attitude
  • have a minimum low intermediate level of English (Cambridge A2)
  • have adequate medical insurance for the duration of their stay in Canada
  • have a desire to fully integrate into the life of their new "family"
  • obtain legal permission to work in Canada.  In most cases, this requires a "Working Holiday" visa from the International Experience Canada Program
