Host an Au Pair

Host an Au Pair

Au Pair students in our program are from a variety of countries, but most Au Pairs are from Germany, Mexico, Spain, & France. While most Au Pair students are female, from time to time we have male Au Pairs join the program. The typical Au Pair is between the ages of 18 & 29, has a desire to travel and get to know Canadian culture, has a love for children, and wishes to improve their English language skills. All Au Pairs have a background working with children. While some have experience limited only to babysitting, others have more extensive experience such as working at children’s camps, leading sports teams, volunteering in schools, etc.

Arrival & Length Of Stay

Au Pairs arrive throughout the year. They come for periods ranging from 6 to 12 months. The maximum stay for an Au Pair is 12 months. Host families pickup their Au Pair student upon arrival at Pearson airport, as well as escort them to the airport on departure day

How Do You Benefit From Having an Au Pair Join Your Family?

You and your family will benefit in many ways from having a Au Pair live with you. First of all, you will have someone to provide extra help with your children. This in itself is invaluable. The Au Pair will also provide light housekeeping duties, which may be of assistance to you as well. By having an Au Pair join your family, your children will open their minds and learn more about another culture. You will be Canadian Ambassadors as well, since your Au Pair will want to learn all about your family and what it means to be Canadian. You can enjoy introducing your Au Pair to Canadian culture including visiting interesting tourist sites around Toronto and Ontario.

Is an Au Pair A Good Substitute For A Nanny?

In most cases, yes. Please keep in mind though that Au Pairs are not professionals. They are young people, generally between the Type equation here.ages of 18 – 29 years, with limited childcare experience. While they have a desire to help you with your children on a full-time basis, they will need lots of guidance from you.

What Type of Housekeeping will the Au Pair do?

The Au Pair will take on “moderate” housekeeping duties. The Au Pair will keep their own room & bathroom clean and tidy. The Au Pair can also contribute to keeping the common areas of the home clean and tidy. Your Au Pair will cook & do laundry. Your Au Pair will not be responsible for cleaning parents or children’s bedrooms or bathrooms. The focus of the program is on childcare, so your Au Pair should be spending the majority of their time with your children, not on cleaning chores.

Police, Medical & Background Checks

All Au Pairs are required to provide at least two reference letters when applying to the program. Our agent partners abroad follow up and carefully check all references. All Au Pairs undergo an interview and attend a program Orientation session. A portion of the interview is conducted in English, to confirm the student’s English ability. Police and medical checks are mandatory for each participant.
